Jarcuterie has been called the COVID-19 friendly food trend that has replaced (for now) the many shared charcuterie platters seen all over the internet, in our homes and restaurants. These are a lot of fun to put together and the possibilities are just endless. I used a lot of ingredients I already had and the fruit and veggies I used were fresh (dried is great to use too).
You can also make Jarcuteries with just sweets or veggies and put the dip in the bottom of the jar – use your imagination!
I’ve been enjoying these for lunch or just snacking on them š
The original trend was started by Noble Graze, a charcuterie and grazing board company. The founder, Suzanne Billings, first posted about jarcuterie in July, 2020.
Jarcuterie or Charcuterie in a Jar
Vessels for serving individual jarcuteries are different sizes of Mason canning jars (these jars are cheap and you can buy a case at a time), decorative jars, stemless wine glasses, white ceramic “cone” I used. There are many choices as to paper cups, paper cones, wooden cones (conery) and plastic cups. I found that 4 oz. and 8 oz. are the best sizes to use.
I have a bunch of decorative skewers and also plain skewers of varying lengths that I use mainly for grilling. The latter can be trimmed to the size you need. I also used these cute pinwheels that actually work!
In the ceramic cone I placed some pistachios and then layered a few slices of pepperoni on top. It helped to hold some of the skewers in place.
The ingredients I used in my Jarcuteries are highlighted:
fruit – strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, green or red grapesĀ (or use dried fruits such as oranges or apricots) – make skewers alternating with cheese
cheese – cheddar cheese slices or cubes on a stick; Brie bites on a stick; mozarella sticks,Ā feta cubed or any cheese of your choice that will slice or cube
crackers – grissini, Vinta 8 Grains & Seeds crackers (you need tall crackers) Firehook Garlic Thyme Baked Crackers – crisp, tall flatbread (delicious), Delallo Focaccia Toasts, pretzel sticks, crostini, homemade cheese straws and breadsticks
nuts and seeds – almonds (Marcona would be delicious), pecans, walnuts, pepitas, pistachios, candied nuts or spiced nuts; sunflower seeds
meats – genoa salami, prosciutto (trimmed of fat), pepperoni, Beef Jerky sticks, chorizo slices, capicola, turkey or ham wrapped in rolls or thread on skewers
olives – gherkins on a stick, pepperoncini (if you use a skewer beĀ sure they drain before putting them in the container)
veggies – carrots cut into shapes, chips orĀ sticks; celery sticks, cucumber slices cut into heart shape, radishes, cherry tomatoes
herbs – pop of color and fragrance (not to eat, just smell) such as rosemary or thyme
Pocky sticks for a little crunch and sweet: Matcha Green Tea, Strawberry Cream, Cookies & Cream, Chocolate Banana, Chocolate Cream and Chocolate (I love these little treats and used them all)
Honey Acacia Straws areĀ a perfect snack
Any homemade additions such as cheese balls rolled in chopped nuts or dried fruit; homemade crackers or bread
Fill the bottom of your glass containers with nuts, seeds, red or green grapes
Arrange your items on different size skewers as you try to create a visual appeal. You want varying heights and colors – it can be a challenge as I wanted to put too much in each container. Fill in the gaps with blueberries, seeds, nuts or any thing that is not skewered. Rolled meats such as ham or turkey, dried fruits are all good choices.

This is one of the charcuterie platters I have made – looks delicious right?

These are so cute and colorful, though I’m not sure how easy they are to eat. I definitely prefer your beautiful platters! š
Thanks – I didn’t have any trouble š All of the items are very easy to eat right off a toothpick or with your hands. Guess you will just have to make them and see for yourself! The jarcuteries are for this time in our lives when shared food is frowned upon š
You’re right, don’t judge before you’ve tried it… š
I just refuse to accept “shared food is frowned upon” – it’s ridiculous. Basic hygiene is all that is needed, in my opinion. š
I disagree but we all have our own opinions – I listen to the authorities including some medical relatives!
Very clever. Great pics!
Thanks very much Charlie – I really enjoyed making them and wanted to put so many different items in the jars. A joy to make and more fun to eat š
I’ve wanted to comment on your blog and I keep having trouble logging in. Not sure what is going on…
Thanks for the effort, glad you checked us out
Works of art!
Thanks a lot Cindy – I wanted to make more but I could only eat so many! I had fun doing it and can’t wait for an opportunity to make more “jarcuterie” š
Iāll take veggie skewers in a Bloody Mary! Yum! ššš
Good suggestion Gail – I have a post on condiments in a Bloody Mary š They are all good!

So cute! š
Thanks Josette – create them to your taste with ingredients you love š
Oh my goodness! So so cute! I need to buy more sticks and spears!
Lots of fun to make! 4.5 and 7-inch skewers are the best size and come with so many different “toppers”. Also, just plain sticks are good too so you can cut them to the size you want. Great for entertaining 2- ???
There will be more soon enough. Fingers crossed !
I bet the kids would love this! Love the bloody Mary tip.
