This is another super easy dessert to prepare ahead of time. Just prepare the filling until you are ready to serve. There is no cooking or baking – how easy is this to provide a sweet little treat like pecan pie. I have a total of (now 10) fillings for these scrumptious tarts. See Tart Shell Fillings 8 Ways and Raspberry Cream Shortbread which I recently posted.
Baklava Tart Filling
- 2 cups walnuts, finely chopped
- 3/4 cup honey
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. lemon juice
- 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
- mini shortbread shells or phyllo tart shells (the recipe makes about 45) if you want to make homemade see Tart Shell Doughs
Combine the first six ingredients and refrigerate where it will thicken. Spoon about 2 tsp. into each tart shell when ready to serve.

Another bite-size treat to share with Angie, Sadhna and Natalie.

I just made some nut rolls that have a walnut filling. I have some filling left over and love the idea of the tarts! How would you store these Judi? Fridge? Counter?
I kept the filling in the refrigerator (separate from the tart shells) until I was ready to serve them. I also brought the filling out about an hour ahead of time to get it more to room temperature. I just froze the leftover filling to save for Christmas. These are so easy to make and just delicious Julie.
Great idea Judi. Thanks!
Brilliant idea! I’ve never made baklava because I find the pastry layers too intimidating. Not so with these. PInning this to try soon. 🙂
I agree with you – making the real thing would not be something I would try to do. Shortcuts like this are great to have when you need a quick and yummy dessert 🙂
Lovely! !!!!!!!
Thanks Lina!
These are ingenious! I adore baklava but have never made it, since buttering each layer of phyllo dough strikes me as far too laborious. What a great way to enjoy the flavors of baklava without all the hassle!
Thanks – you will enjoy these especially since they are so easy to make. I’m keeping the ingredients on hand just in case I need a quick but delicious dessert.
These are lovely little tarts so beautiful and tasty! I love this auntjuju so cute and I am sure delicious!
I have been using the pre-made shells a little too much but it sure does save time when time is at a premium 🙂
It really does save time which does help, i love those little shells
Baklava in any form is a hit! These tarts are so cute and yummy!
Thanks – these are a good substitute for the real thing 🙂
They look just too cute! What a great party treat, Judie!
Yes they are a real crowd pleaser 🙂
I love that you don’t have to cook or bake anything to make these–what a time-saver for the holidays!
Me too! If you have time of course homemade is always better. The ingredients are usually in my pantry too 🙂
Judi, the small versions of your baklava looks really nice! 🙂
Thanks Linda – and easy to make too 🙂
Wow gorgeous looking tarts. …looks toothsome aunt Juju….
Thanks so much Chitra 🙂
What a brilliant idea, who doesn’t love baklava, but the mere thought of putting all those layers together is just too fussy. The mini tarts are so versatile aren’t they? Great idea for over the holidays.
Thanks Loretta – I mean baklava without the work, no baking or cooking. How easy of a dessert is this? I use tarts a lot to fill in when I need a little chocolate or custard. Many different fillings can be used…
Love love love baklava and know I’d love this clever tartlets…but would want more than one!
I love, love, love it too Johanne! Most definitely you need more than one.
I LOVE this! Baklava is one of my favourite desserts, but I haven’t made it in so long, simply because it’s quite a procedure to put together. Thank you for sharing this at Fiesta Friday! Have a great weekend 🙂
Thanks Natalie – everyone agrees the real baklava is too much work but these little tarts are so easy and so good. Unheard of weather – high 60’s today in Dec.!!! Hope you’re enjoying your weekend 🙂

I love baklava but I have never though of making it into tart form. What a good idea!!! 🙂
Thanks – they really are good – homemade dough is always an option but how can you go wrong with pre-made shells 🙂
Looks super inviting..love it
Thanks – this is a delicious mini dessert!
Fantastic idea, Judi! I happen to have those phyllo cups! 🙂
Thanks – homemade dough is always better but once in awhile those packaged phyllo and shortbread tarts sure come in handy 🙂
You really kicked tart filling up a notch! I am a sucker for any of these little tarts – and have a few different fillings – but 10! 🙂 Way to go – and you’ve now become my ultimate tart go to guide!
Hey thanks! Being a librarian/teacher I always try to link recipes or combine when I can. Check out the different doughs (five versions) if you want to make homemade. These pre-made ones are really handy though 🙂
