Happy New Year’s! This French toast was so delicious for breakfast this morning that I had to post it before the New Year was over. This is a follow up to my Portuguese Sweet Bread in the Mini Zo, Updated.
Unbelievably tasty with the lemon touched sweet bread smothered in Michigan maple syrup. I always need a glass of cold milk with this kind of breakfast and some fresh fruit.
French Toast for One or Two using Portuguese Sweet Bread
- 2 large eggs
- 1/3 cup whole milk
- 1 tbsp. sugar or honey
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2 slices of Portuguese Sweet Bread, cut into 3/4-inch to 1-inch slices
- unsalted butter
Melt the butter in a large skillet and get it sizzling. Combine the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla and mix well. Dip the sweet bread into the egg mixture a few seconds on each side. Cook the French toast until golden brown on both sides.

Now that’s what I call “comfort food”! 🙂
Happy New Year! 🙂
Thanks Ronit – this French toast is top on the chart of comfort food. Now, I can make it without having to worry about finding challah or brioche bread. Happy New Year and the best in 2021 🙂
Thank you! 🙂
I so wish I could have some of this now! It looks so good, and I can just imagine that lemony goodness!
thanks – I like the lemon in the bread versus the dipping egg mixture. French toast is a perfect way to use this Portuguese sweet bread.
Mmmm. My stomach is growling. 😋🌿
Every time I see the pictures I wish I was having it for breakfast again 🙂
I’m glad you did post it. Delicious! Happy New Year. Hugs on the wing!
