These muffins sound good, don’t they? I know, not another apple recipe but this one is special (they all are, right?). These muffins are even better because they are healthy, I used my homemade Grandma’s applesauce which I can every year and there is maple syrup in the glaze. This recipe just shouts Fall, Fall, Fall!
Applesauce Muffins with Maple Glaze
- 1-1’2 cups rolled oats
- 1-1/4 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp. Vietnamese cinnamon
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 3/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1 cup unsweetened applesauce (go here for my special Grandma’s recipe – no sugar or spices just slowly cooked apples and their skins)
- 1/2 cup 2% milk
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 3 tbsp. canola oil
- 1 egg white
Preheat the oven to 400°F. In a large bowl combine the oats, flour, cinnamon, baking powder and baking soda. In a separate bowl beat together the applesauce, milk, brown sugar, oil and egg white.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry and mix just until moistened. Spoon into greased muffin tins and bake for 20 minutes. (if you would prefer a crumble topping see recipe below and sprinkle on muffins before baking). Remove, cool and make the glaze.
Maple Syrup Glaze:
- 1 tbsp. butter, melted
- 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar, sifted (see picture below, otherwise you can have lumps in your glaze)
- 2 tbsp. maple syrup (a fellow blogger added 1-1/2 tbsp. more – sounds yummy)
Combine above ingredients and drizzle over muffins once they have cooled. This is absolutely delicious and would be good on top of many recipes…
Cinnamon Crumble Topping:
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 tsp. Vietnamese cinnamon
- 1/4 cup cold butter, cut into small pieces
Combine the first 3 ingredients and work in the butter pieces with your hands. You could also just add a little bit of granulated sugar instead.

Fiesta Friday #88 is in full swing and I am happy to share these moist and tender muffins full of oats and applesauce. Thanks to Angie, Julie @ Hostess At Heart and Liz @ Spades, Spatulas and Spoons.

Lovely Judi, Fall definitely brings out muffins and warm fruity desserts doesn’t it? Love all the ingredients in yours, that homemade sauce looks wonderful too. I myself made coconut and carrot muffins, and will probably post it next week.
Thanks Loretta – good to see you back. It’s a fun time of the year to be cooking/baking. Your muffins sound delicious too – I just harvested my carrots and oh what a big crop I have!
I’m afraid I’ve been pretty busy these past few months with travel Judi, so I haven’t been “appearing” as much as I’d like to. Off to see my family across the pond next week, so there will be an absence then too :(. Hopefully all is well with you. Lucky you with all those carrots. Yes, I know about the deer, if times are desperate, they will devour anything around. The best part would be cages around the raised beds I’m thinking. Have a blessed Sunday.
Make sure they can’t get their noses through the cages and also they can stand on their hind hooves and top of anything they can reach. Have fun in England – I have many happy memories of our many trips overseas but now I am content to be closer to home! I’m doing great and enjoying the cooler weather and what comes with it 🙂
Oh my! You’re right, this just screams fall. I need these in my life ASAP! YUMMMM!
Ha!Ha! These muffins are certainly good!
Wonderful recipe. I love the maple glaze idea! 🙂
Thanks Ronit – the glaze would be good on top of so many things 🙂
Oh I can definitely see that… I think I’ll use it next time I’ll be making the maple-pecan cake I posted this week. 🙂
Just checked out your recipe and I will have to make it soon. Love, love, love maple syrup and Fall!
Thank you Judi. I’m glad you liked the recipe. Maple syrup and fall are both my favorites as well. 🙂
Now this is my kind of baking! These look and sound so delicious! Great recipe!
Thanks Arlene – I am not a big oats eater unless it is in a recipe like this and these muffins are loaded 🙂
Wow those muffins look amazing!!! Love the glaze.
Always fun to remember my Grandma and her great applesauce – she would be so proud of the many ways I use it. If you like maple you will love this glaze Suzanne.
I can’t get enough apple recipes! These look really wonderful, Judi. Your applesauce must make them even more fabulous.
Me either Josette – Grandma’s applesauce is special to me and there is no other like it 🙂
Made your muffins this morning!! Yum!
I’m glad you liked them Josette – maybe a tad too much oats…
This is right up my alley! I love every thing about these muffins, from the homemade applesauce, the crumble topping to the maple glaze. I wish I had a plate (more than one) of these right now. Thank you for the recipe, it will grace my table soon!
Thanks Julie – I love a good muffin too and these are healthier than I normally make. Happy FF 🙂
The muffins look so good Judi and I like your Applesauce topping! 🙂
Thanks so much Linda 🙂
Yummm i have my apples and i am ready. Look amazing
There are so many good apple recipes that I know you will have fun baking/cooking!
These look very healthy and delicious, I’m going to look up your recipe for applesauce. Most of the commercial ones are way too sweet for me. Is it posted somewhere on your blog site? What variety of apples do you use?
In my printable recipe I mentioned go “here” for my Grandma’s Applesauce – so just click on “here” or search Grandma’s Applesauce. I updated it from (Applesauce from Scratch) and provided a lot more detail and pictures. The apples I use for the applesauce are Cortlands and if not available I will use Northern Spy (what I normally make my pies with). My Grandma used them too… There is no sugar or spices, just the natural sweetness of the apples. They take awhile to cook that’s why I can a bunch every year. I hope you have time to give it a try – you won’t be disappointed 🙂 Not sure what you can get in California!
What a lovely post – of course I’m a bit of a sucker for anything passed down, especially recipes. 🙂
Thanks so much – me too… I treasure everything that has been passed on – my home is full of memories…
