Pie Crust Two Ways

I am known for my flaky pie crust and this is a good recipe for all fruit and cream pies.  In 2013 I tried a slightly different pie crust from the Gandy Dancer and it was delicious; see recipe below. If you have a juicy filling, brush the bottom piece of dough with an egg … Continue reading

Mom’s Creamed Corn, Updated

Thanksgiving would not be the same without my mother-in-laws creamed corn. This was one of the first recipes I posted 10 years ago and never took any pictures, so today (11-23-21) I have added a few and some more details. There are many versions but I had to keep my MIL’s recipe. Next year I … Continue reading

Cranberry Relish Two Ways

I have included two different recipes,  one has a little liqueur in it which was Gene’s favorite and the other version does not.  Both use fresh cranberries and have a nice orange flavor that goes perfectly with the cranberries.      You can see the pineapple design!

Human Puppy Chow

Kids like this especially because of some of the ingredients, chocolate and peanut butter.  Of course there are some adults who like this too! 1/2 cup butter 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips 1/3 cup creamy peanut butter 9 cups corn chex, rice chex or crispix cereal 2 cups powdered sugar In a large saucepan melt the … Continue reading

Rice Krispies Treats

You can make these any time of the year and you do not have to have a cute pan to make small pumpkins for Thanksgiving (see picture below) or a ball pan to make Christmas ornaments. These are a lot of fun though and the kids really like to help make and decorate their own dessert.  … Continue reading

Spicy Veggie Stir-Fry

This is a good, basic stir-fry sauce to use with your favorite, fresh vegetables.  Serve over rice and I have had an occasional request for chow mein noodles (the crispy ones that come in a bag).

Pumpkin Pie

A traditional dessert that most people serve on Thanksgiving.  In my family there are sometimes other types of pies but there is always a pumpkin pie.

Capellini with Fresh Tomato Sauce

When I feel like eating pasta and I want it to be low fat I make this Weight Watcher’s recipe which I have adapted to suit my taste.  There are 6 points per serving.

Pico de Gallo

I like just about any type of salsa and this one is loaded with fresh tomatoes (even a few canned).  Salsa can be made mild (use poblanos instead of jalapenos), use parsley instead of cilantro, add more onions and so on.  A fun dish to make.

Cheese Straws

I have included 2 recipes for cheese straws, the first one I have made for years.  I found the second recipe by Art Smith (former chef of Oprah’s) and we like this one better as it has more character with the addition of cayenne, black pepper and poppy or sesame seeds.  See my updated version of … Continue reading
