Something different and unusual – I would never have thought of adding chorizo to hamburgers. As I have mentioned I get regular recipes/emails from Weber’s Grills (in addition to the five cookbooks I have) and this email said ‘try me’. I pretty much eat only turkey burgers but to have a beef and sausage burger once in awhile, oh yes! The sauce is a perfect addition along with lettuce, tomato and a slice of sharp cheddar. I even bought regular buns and not whole wheat. It was a nice treat for me…
Chorizo Beef Burgers for the Fourth of July
- 1-1/4 lbs. ground chuck
- 6 oz. cured (not fresh) chorizo sausage, finely chopped
- 1 tsp. granulated garlic (I used garlic powder)
- 3/4 tsp. kosher salt (I used 1/4 tsp.)
- 1/4 tsp. black pepper
- slices of sharp cheddar, tomato slices, lettuce and hamburger buns of your choice
Combine the above ingredients and form six patties (they recommended 4 but that makes for some big burgers). It is a little work cutting up the sausage! Try not to compact the meat too much or the patties will be on the tough side. Make a 1-inch wide indentation in the middle of each burger; this helps cook the patties evenly (it always works).
On your preheated grill cook for about 8-10 minutes turning once. Add a slice of sharp cheddar and cook another minute. Also, toast your buns.
Serve with sliced tomato (Weber’s recommended grilling the tomatoes but I did not) leaf of lettuce and some of that delicious spicy sauce.

Chorizo Burgers Sauce
- 1/2 cup mayo (I did use low fat)
- 1 tbsp. ketchup (I did use low sugar)
- 1/2 tsp. fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp. chili powder
- 1/4 tsp. chipotle chili powder
- 1/4 tsp. kosher salt
Combine the above ingredients and chill until ready to serve.
You can see little bits of chorizo in the picture on the left.
A favorite meal in the summer – corn on the cob, tomato and cucumber salad and any kind of grilled burger. Gene liked to grill burgers and steaks and that was about it 🙂

That burger makes my mouth water!!!!!! Mmmmmmm!
I like beef and chorizo sausage and the two together tasted great (once in awhile) 🙂
