Pigs-In-A-Blanket Using Silicone Molds

Would you like a very cute way to serve those pigs-in-a-blanket for Super Bowl Sunday? These silicone molds first appeared in a catalog and then I went searching on Amazon (2-day prime shipping). Oh my gosh – just saw these molds at my Kroger grocery store (1-29-19).

So easy to make, only a few ingredients and you have an appetizer that will have your football guests smiling – I know mine will be. I served these little cuties with yellow mustard, honey dijon mustard and I made a mustard/mayonnaise dip (see recipe below).

Pigs-In-A-Blanket Using Silicone Molds

  • 2 (12 little pigs) silicone molds (see picture below)
  • pancake mix – I used Bisquick or a homemade pancake mix (I don’t recommend using traditional crescent rolls or pie dough) half a recipe of Bisquick was enough for 24 piggies
  • non-stick spray
  • 24 mini hot dogs
  • red food coloring and paint brush (optional to highlight the features such as eyes, tail)

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Lightly spray each pig with non-stick spray and place on a cookie sheet. I take a pastry brush and make sure each mold is totally covered with spray.

Make the pancake mix – it should be a little thick. Add a little batter to the bottoms of each well of the molds. Place a mini hot dog on top and cover lightly with more pancake batter. Some may overflow a bit but you can trim them before serving.

Bake for approximately 20 minutes (only took 15 minutes in my oven).

If desired you could highlight the eyes, tail and any other feature with diluted red food coloring.

Remove, place on  a platter and serve with your favorite mustard or use the combination mustard/mayo dip below.

Honey-Dijon Mustard and Mayonnaise Dip:

  • use 1/2 cup honey-dijon mustard or 3/8 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/8 cup clover honey (omit if you used honey-dijon mustard)
  • 1/8 tsp. ground red pepper
  • dash of garlic powder

Combine above ingredients and serve with pigs-in-a-blanket.

I recommend buying two molds as you usually get about 24 mini franks in a package and you can bake them on the same baking sheet.

  1. Judi, I love your pigs in a blanket. I must find that baking mold. A quick search didn’t reveal availability over here, but I’ll keep looking. Great idea for any party. Thanks for sharing.

    • You are welcome Mimi! Yes, the younger crowd especially like these “little piggies”. Besides online I found them in one of my local grocery stores. Easy to make too and inexpensive using pancake mix!

  2. Tee-hee! Judi, I’m beside myself. These are so adorable! The most adorable pigs in blanket dish I’ve ever seen, bar none. How perfect for a Chinese New Year celebration. Remember, it’s the Year of the Pig!
By the way, Deme and Honeybell (the glowing pigs from Atonement TN) are very excited about the Year of the Earth Pig. They would think these were wonderful too… as long as we don’t mention what’s inside them. 😉 🐖🐖 Hugs!

    • Thanks so much Teagan – I didn’t realize it was the Year of the Pig. I just might have to make an addition to my post. Deme and Honeybell are so cute – they remind me of the pigs my brother use to raise. Of course I won’t tell them what’s inside 🙂

    • Thanks Julie – I just couldn’t resist making these. I might highlight the eyes the next time with a little red food color. I like the pancake mix versus using dough in the “traditional pigs-in-a-blanket”.

  3. hey auntie juju! Excited to get those molds and use this recipie for the fall get together this year! Super cool pics of uncle mike!! Love you
