I never thought about grilling green beans but in a recent Midwest Living magazine there was a recipe. I liked the idea, but changed the directions and ingredients. Besides, I had to use my fresh green beans from my small garden I just planted this year. Green bean plants growing with my antique black crow guarding them (I had a little trouble with the birds when I first planted the seeds) and freshly picked green beans.
Grilled Green Beans
- 1 lb. fresh green beans, trimmed
- 2 large shallots or onions, chopped
- 2 tbsp. water
- 1 tbsp. reduced-sodium soy sauce
- 1-2 tbsp. Thai Chili Sauce
Comment: use any seasonings you like on the green beans Combine above ingredients in a bowl and set aside. Fold a 36×18-inch piece of heavy foil in half to make an 18-inch square. Place bean mixture in center of foil and bring two opposite edges together, then the other two sides to enclose the beans, allowing space for steam to build. On a preheated grill, cook for 20 minutes or so depending on how you like your beans cooked, turning once. Carefully, open the foil and grill another 5-10 minutes or until the beans are just browned.browned.
Cajun Green Beans: To a pound of fresh green beans add seasoning such as Cajun or Creole, about 1/2 tsp. to 1 tsp. or to taste. Add a little water or a pat of butter and grill as above.

Great recipe!
Thanks – I have two grills so I am frequently cooking my entire dinner outside.
Me too! (One grill, but dinner is being cooked outside these days only)!
