Michigan Vineyard Salad

This recipe comes from Sandhill Crane Winery, a favorite vineyard to visit in southeast Michigan.  They have a tasting room with great wines, they host many special events, and they also have a great café with all kinds of good things to eat.  Sandwiches, soups, yummy desserts (they are famous for their bacon chocolate chip cookies).  They even serve gluten free items.  Best of all their bread comes from Zingerman’s Bakery in Ann Arbor.

Michigan Vineyard Salad

  • 1/2 cup Blushing Crane wine (any good rose will do)
  • 1 tbsp. Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp. white wine vinegar
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup fruity olive oil such as Columela Extra Virgin Olive Oil  as a first choice or try Colavita Extra Virgin Olive Oil (American Test Kitchen recommends these two fruity oils)

Combine above ingredients and blend well.  Serve over the following:

  • mixed greens
  • dried cherries (cranberries would be good too)
  • sliced or chopped pears
  • blue cheese, crumbled
  • walnuts, toasted
