Flower Pot Dirt Cake

This is a fun cake to make with the kids.  I did this with a couple of grandkids, Megan and Hunter,  to give to their mom on Mother’s Day!

Flower Pot Dirt Cake

  • 1 pkg. Oreo cookies (16 oz.)
  • 12 oz. cream cheese,  room temperature
  • 6 tbsp. unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 4 (3.9 oz.) pkg. instant chocolate pudding
  • 4-3/4 cups milk
  • 1 (16 oz.) carton frozen whipped topping, thawed, or whip up your own
  • candy for decorating such as gummy worms, edible rocks, cookie or chocolate flowers on sticks

Reserve 1 Oreo cookie for the drainage hole in a 5-quart capacity flower-pot.  Place remaining cookies in the bowl of a food processor and process until mixture resembles dirt.  Set aside.

In a large bowl, combine cream cheese and butter, and stir until creamy; set aside.

In another large bowl, whisk together the pudding and milk, stir until blended.  Using a rubber spatula fold pudding mixture into cream-cheese mixture.  Fold in whipped cream.

Sterilize flower-pot for an hour in a 250 degree oven before using.  Alternate layers of cookie “dirt” and pudding mixture, starting and ending with cookie “dirt”.  Chill at least 4 hours or overnight.  Garnish with candy and cookie/chocolate flowers.
