Valentine’s Day Sweet Treats in a Red Heart-Shaped Cake Pan

Pinterest sure gives me ideas, almost too many, on making different “boards” (I also have a number of books on the subject) and in this case I used a heart-shaped red cake pan to display all the different goodies. An empty heart-shaped candy box would work too. Frequently, I use wood boards, slate, ceramic, etc. for my charcuterie but you really can use just about any thing.

This was fun to choose a bunch of sweets and even make a couple of things; Raspberry Sugar Cookies and Three Chocolate Bark for Valentine’s Day. Next week I will share the cookie recipe but I have included the bark in this post.

Valentine's Day Sweet Treats in a Red Heart-Shaped Cake Pan

There are a ton of choices of sweets to include and the following is what I chose:

  • Raspberry Sugar Cookies (homemade – will share recipe next week)
  • Three Chocolate Bark for Valentine’s Day (homemade – recipe below)
  • meringue drops – white chocolate and raspberry
  • M&M’s cupid mix
  • Dove dark chocolate hearts
  • cinnamon jelly hearts
  • jelly beans
  • conversation hearts
  • pretzels (I wanted something salty but didn’t get back to the store to buy any)
  • fresh strawberries to garnish and fill in  gaps
  • fill in gaps with extra candy
  • red heart-shaped cake pan or use an empty large candy box
  • wooden spoons for scooping
  • small containers to hold candy

Three Chocolate Bark for Valentine’s Day:

  • semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • funfetti vanilla cake morsels with rainbow funfetti
  • strawberry candy melts
  • sprinkles, jimmies and any small heart candy

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Melt the chocolate in a microwave at 20-30 second intervals, stirring until smooth and creamy. Pour onto parchment and spread it out with an off-set spatula. Allow to either air dry or place in refrigerator until firm.

Microwave the funfetti chocolate and drizzle on top of the chocolate layer. Because the strawberry candy melts were thick I used a decorator’s bag with a tip to drizzle the candy melts all over the chocolate. You want to cover the chocolate layer as much as possible. Swirl a fork through the chocolate to make a design.

While the chocolate is still wet add your sprinkles. Cover and chill for at least 30 minutes. Break apart into smaller pieces and  chill them again until serving.

  1. This is such a clever presentation. I am going to refer back to it when I get my Valentine’s treat together to give to my grandkids.
