Banana Smoothie For One (Batido de Banano)

When I like to relax I often will pick up one of my many cookbooks that I haven’t read in awhile. Some people read novels – I read cookbooks. Latin American Street Food: The Best Flavors of Markets, Beaches, and Roadside Stands from Mexico to Argentina by Sandra A. Gutierrez is one I just read last night. There are lots of good recipes and interesting reading on these regions but this banana smoothie stood out.

I always seem to have overripe bananas on the counter and had all the ingredients for this simple and creamy beverage. Some kind of fruit is frequently what I eat for breakfast and a smoothie using frozen fruit when fresh isn’t available. Usually I freeze my extra bananas so this was nice to use one fresh.

Banana lovers – you will not be disappointed with this creamy banana smoothie!

Banana Smoothie For One (Batido de Banano)

  • 1 ripe banana, peeled and cut into chunks (not frozen)
  • 3/4 cup whole milk (use any kind of milk you prefer)
  • 1 tbsp. orange blossom honey (again use any honey you prefer or another sweetener) or to taste
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 3/8 cup crushed ice

Fortunately I have an ice crusher which makes this smoothie easy to make. Place all of the ingredients in a blender – I used my Vitamix and blend on high until smooth. Enough for one!

This smoothie is also delicious using unsweetened almond milk and regular honey…

  1. Bananas are my favorite fruit and I like that this recipe is simple with very few ingredients. And healthy! I am intrigued by your countertop ice crusher – that would be so useful at a party. I will have to get one of those!

    • This smoothie is really good and you can use any kind of milk, any sweetener and vanilla adds more flavor. Many years ago when I entertained quite a bit I got tired of using a hand-crank version. The electric is nice but I don’t use it very often now…
