I have been making this relish for some time now as a topping for my turkey and black bean burgers. If you like the following ingredients then you will enjoy this on any burger you might make. I call this my “burger with the works”!
Tomato Bacon Relish for your Burgers
- 2 strips thick-sliced bacon (turkey or beef)
- 1/2 cup onions, chopped
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup prepared yellow mustard
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup tomatoes, peeled, seeded and diced
Saute the bacon and set aside; crumble. Add the onion to the bacon grease and saute for about 5 minutes. Stir in the sugar, mustard and ketchup. Add the tomatoes and simmer 1 minute. Add the crumbled up bacon and stir or add the bacon on top of the tomato relish for a little more crunch. I like my burgers (whether beef, turkey or black bean) with a slice of melted cheddar, some dill pickle slices and a piece of lettuce.

I love the idea if this dressing – and I bet the bacon makes it so smoky!
Thanks Laura and the bacon adds some nice flavor 🙂
Do you think it’d still be good without bacon? (crazy question, I know…)
Oh sure Laura the relish would be fine without the bacon 🙂
Now that looks lovey to put on top of any kind of meat really. Lovely!
That’s an interesting thought you have and a good one – thanks 🙂
Perfect timing, Judi, with the grilling season finally beginning! I’m pinning this to give it a go next time the burgers are prepared. It sounds delicious!
Thanks Nancy – the sauce makes a burger special no matter what kind I make 🙂
Oh, looks like I’ll be eating this straight out of the bowl with a spoon. 😉
I did that already Patty LOL
Haha good!! Now I will feel less guilty! 😉
Wow — this looks amazing! Not that it would last us that long, but how long does this keep in the fridge? Can’t wait to make this soon!
Thanks Angenette – I used it on 6 sandwiches so it kind of depends – no more than 1 week I would imagine.
