Southeast Michigan Pioneer Wine Trail 2013

What a great 2 day weekend visiting 9 different wineries and 1 brewery,  tasting their special wines and enjoying delicious appetizers specifically paired with a great wine.  This weekend was even more exciting because I shared it with my two sisters.  Saturday was a cold and windy day with a few snow flurries but that did not stop us from having a good time.  Sunday was beautiful, warmer and fun touring the countryside from winery to winery!

We visited tasting rooms in a  winery with an airplane inside; Chateau Aeronautique Winery,  and an old 1870 schoolhouse; Cherry Creek Old Schoolhouse Winery (this winery is near MIS – Michigan International Speedway).

Our first appetizer on the tour was at Sandhill Crane Winery where we enjoyed a salad (I will post the recipe soon) and a Zingerman roll paired with their “Blushing Crane”. Each winery had yummy appetizers  to enjoy with a small glass of wine. (I was the designated driver, so my glass had just a taste).  We even got some recipes to use with the wine we purchased!

We took a short 15 minute tour of the cellar at Sandhill Crane Winery  where they make their wine.

On to 4 more wineries on Saturday and a total of 4 wineries on Sunday.  Yes, a great weekend was had by all. I came home with almost 2 cases of wine (remember this was from nine wineries), enough to last me for quite awhile.  And a cute T-shirt saying how I felt 🙂
