Lemonade Scented with Lavender

I just had a refreshing glass of this lemonade – perfect on a hot day in Michigan  (in the 90’s today).  The lavender buds add a delicate floral taste to this summer drink and gives the lemonade a slight pinkish color.

Lemonade Scented with Lavender

  • 2-1/2 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar (I only add  3/4 cup)
  • 1 tbsp. lavender flowers, dried
  • 2-1/2 cups cold water
  • 1 cup cold lemon juice (about 5 lemons)

Bring the first 2-1/2 cups water to boil with the  sugar.  Remove from the heat and stir in the lavender.  Cover and let steep for 1 hour.  You need to pick the flowers before the buds open.

Strain the lavender from the sugar/water mixture.  Stir in the cold water and cold lemon juice.  Serve over lemon ice cubes and  garnish with a sprig of mint.

Or use a flower shaped ice cube tray using the lavender lemonade and place an edible flower inside or just a plain ice cube tray with an edible flower such as a johnny jump-up.
