Any recipe that has a citrus flavor is enjoyed by my family, especially certain members like Gene. This is a mild sauce, not too much lemon and without any eggs. It is a nice addition to desserts. See my recipe Old-fashioned Gingerbread Cake.
Lemon Sauce for Desserts
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tbsp. cornstarch
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 tbsp. lemon zest, grated
- 2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
- 1 tbsp. butter
Heat 1 cup of water to boiling, add sugar, cornstarch and salt. Cook on medium, stirring constantly, until mixture is thick. Stir in lemon zest, juice and butter. Serve warm or at room temperature.
