I ran across the idea of using fried jalapenos in a Green Bean Appetizer recipe. I thought this was different as I always use fried onions in any Green Bean Casserole version I have ever made. Being one who loves jalapenos I decided to give this a try with some ham prior to Thanksgiving. I made a casserole and 15 appetizers in phyllo shells.
UPDATE: I just received an email from Food52 (Dec. 2nd, 2021) listing the top 12 holiday foods at Trader Joe’s. Much to my surprise, Green Been Casserole Bites (not with jalapenos but the traditional fried onions) was Number 1. I didn’t think they were that great (mine were homemade) and prefer the traditional casserole. Each to their own… https://www.traderjoes.com/home/products/pdp/071872

Forget the appetizer idea but the casserole was delicious, that is if you like some heat in this traditional dish. I do enjoy a little “spark” in my food but I’m not so sure how many others would. It adds a nice flavor contrast with the rest of a heavy Thanksgiving Day dinner and I am all about trying most things at least once. I love them and if I don’t use these spicy treats again in this casserole I’m sure I will find other uses for them! If nothing else they are good to munch on…

Green Bean Casserole with Fried Jalapenos
- 3-4 cans cut green beans, drained or use a pound of fresh haricots vert, partially cooked, trimmed and cut into pieces
- 1 can golden mushroom soup, traditional cream of mushroom or cream of chicken
- 1/2 cup milk (I use skim)
- 1-2 cups Frenchs fried jalapenos or Frenchs fried onions (you can also make homemade)
- 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- cheddar, shredded (optional)
Combine the beans, soup, milk, worcestershire sauce and almost all of the fried jalapenos (save some to finish the dish). Place in a greased casserole dish.
Bake, uncovered, for 45 minutes at 350 degrees. Top with additional fried jalapenos and bake 10 minutes longer.

Thanks – this is an easy recipe to cut in half and put fried onions in one half and fried jalapenos in the other half 🙂
