Limoncello Sunrise

Fall may be less than a month away but there is always time for one more summer cocktail. One of my favorite ways to entertain is to have a brunch usually in the 11:00 to 2:00 range. It didn’t matter if it was a weekend baby shower, birthday celebration or a get together wtih friends, family or Gene’s business associates. The beverage of choice was a fruity drink such as this delightful mixture of limoncello, orange juice and grenadine. They are light and can be served any time of the year. Of course there was always beer and wine for those who preferred not to drink such a sweet cocktail.

Oops! I forgot the grenadine…
The grenadine or “sunrise” was added…

I used a 1 to 3 ratio; 1 part Limoncello to 3 parts orange juice. Also, make sure all the liquid ingredients are cold.

  • orange juice, fresh is nice but I have people who don’t like pulp
  • Limoncello liquor
  • splash of Grenadine (check expiration date – store in refrigerator for longer life)
  • orange or lemon slices, maraschino cherries or herbs to garnish

Add ice to a glass of your choice. Add the appropriate amounts of orange juice and Limoncello to each glass and stir. You can make a big pitcher of the mixture or just serve individually. Slowly pour the grenadine down the side of the glass – do not stir. You want that “sunrise” effect. Use garnishes of your choice and serve cold.
