Our puppies deserve special treats especially when they are well-behaved or when they have had some medical issues. My puppy nephew, Simba, who is 8 months old just got “nipped” if you know what I mean and I wanted to take him something yummy since he was a very good boy. No unwanted offspring for him!
Simba enjoying one of the banana/peanut butter/yogurt ice cream treats I made just for him. He is so gentle and just stands there and lets you hold the cup and licks and licks until it is all gone. Not a touch of aggressiveness, only calm and pure joy. Oh – Aunt Juju – thank you so much for my “get well soon” treats!
There are a number of recipes you can make and the dogs just love them. Unless of course they are an aggressive eater and want to gobble it down all at once. Simba is not… The first three I made according to Simba are just doggie delicious. The fourth made with pumpkin puree (one way of getting your pet some veggies) is a favorite as well.
I used small bathroom cups and put a dog bone treat in the middle. The 4 oz. cups have lids which are very convenient and I found those through Etsy.
I am sharing these yummy ice cream treats with all the good doggies and of course Fiesta Friday.
Doggie Ice Cream Treats
Banana, Peanut Butter and Yogurt Ice Cream Cups:
- 18 oz. plain lowfat yogurt (I used non-fat Greek)
- 1/2 cup peanut butter (reduced fat)
- 4 oz. jar banana baby food (I have not bought baby food in years and years)
- 1 tbsp. honey (I did not add)
- 4 oz. cups with lids or bathroom cups (stick a dog bone treat in them)
- small dog bone treats (to stick inside the cups if desired)
Combine all ingredients, put in your containers and freeze.
Fresh Strawberry Ice Cream Treats:
- fresh strawberries, mashed to bring out the juices
- lowfat plain vanilla yogurt
- 4 oz. cups with lids or bathroom cups (stick a dog bone treat in them)
Combine enough mashed strawberries (maybe 6 large berries) to add to two cups of yogurt. Combine and freeze in containers.
Fresh Banana/Peanut Butter Yogurt:
- 2 bananas, mashed
- 16 oz. plain, low-fat yogurt
- 1/2 cup reduced fat peanut butter
Mix well and place in containers.
Pumpkin Flavored Ice Cream:
- 29 oz. can 100% pumpkin puree
- 1/2 cup reduced fat peanut butter
- 1 cup plain, non-fat yogurt
Combine above ingredients, spoon into cups and freeze.
Ice Cream Toppings:
- spoonful of unsweetened applesauce
- dribbles of honey
- sprinkle of rice krispies
- how about some pieces of crispy bacon

Please Mom – hurry up as I need an ice cream treat – I do honestly. Aunt Juju is the best cook, next to you of course 🙂
I am very gentle and just enjoying every lick 🙂
I close my eyes when I am really getting into it…
Asleep in my favorite chair after my delicious treat. Yes, I know the chair is too small but it wasn’t when I was just a little puppy.
Bye for now <3

How cute Aunt JuJu!!!
Thanks!
So wonderful especially love the biscuit popsicle stick, sweet doggie got a wonderful treat.
Thanks – he really is a sweet puppy!
awwwe love this! What an adorable puppy! I have two Clementine and Kenny, grandkids!
Thanks!
clementine will love them!
have to try these treats
I hope you do – Simba says they are delicious!
awwweee I will. they are coming for thanksgiving so I need to!
oh, what a cute post! they seems both delicious and refreshing treats. Love the bone biscuits 😀
Thanks!
My dog would love these treats! Very sweet!
All dogs love an ice cream treat especially in the warmer months 🙂
Lovely post! And Simba is a sweetie! We have a big black lab/dane mix and he looks very much like Simba. 🙂 I’ll just have to make him frozen treats too.
Thanks – I’m not sure what mix Simba is but is just the nicest dog. My sister took him to Puppy School and he gets to interact with a lot of puppies his age. Most definitely make these treats for your “friend”.
Lovely treats and such a cute boy 🙂
He is a sweetie 🙂
Ah what a nice boy! I think Maci would love the pumpkin and peanut butter treat. She’s only 4 lbs though so might put them in ice cream trays.
Is that all she weighs Julie? From the picture I saw of her I thought she was bigger.Of course ice cube trays for her or something smaller perhaps.
Nope, she’s a small maltese. She’s a chicken too. Was afraid of the neighbors bunny. Nothing like the Lab we had for 13 years!
Our last dog was a yellow lab! At least you have a good watch dog ha!ha!
Yea I know. If the lab thought we had company I was vigilant. With this one? Never mind. She’s a lover, but very different from the lab! 🙂
That’s so sweet and kind of Aunt Juju. She is definetely an amazing cook <3
Ha!Ha! Thanks so much Ana 🙂
Grt treat..I m sure ur dog would have loved it
Simba definitely loved these treats and it did not matter which flavor he ate.
He is so cute!!! These treats are such a good idea!!
Thank you – Simba sure thought they were great treats 🙂
Oh my goodness, I have been waiting for this post. We buy expensive special doggie ice cream treats (very occasionally) at the pet store and they are outrageously expensive! You have made my day! And, what a sweet looking puppy.
That’s great Liz! My sister said the same thing – obviously you can make them to your “doggie’s taste” – they don’t care as they know they are getting a special treat!
Wonder if my mini schnauzer would like these? #probably Great photos!
Thanks – We had a dog like that, Peppi, and she would have loved a small ice cream treat 🙂
I love this idea, I only wish it were May right now! I might have to make a larger size for my giant Gibson! 🙂
Ha! Ha! A Great Dane is a big dog – he might need two or three 4 oz.; maybe a 6 or 8 oz. cup might be more appropriate 🙂
Great recipe and what a cutie! Is is wrong that we want to make these treats for ourselves?! 😀
Thanks – he’s a very sweet and gentle big dog 🙂
Simba is such a beautiful pup. We felt guilty when we had our pups nipped, too. These frozen treats are so easy to make. I made some ice cream sandwiches for our with homemade oatmeal cookies. Can’t wait to try your ice cream recipes!
Thanks so much – I really appreciate your comments. Simba is a beautiful puppy and he’s a pleasure to be around. Oh my – ice cream sandwiches – what a great idea 🙂
