First we used a plastic bag filled with ice cubes and a meat tenderizer to crush ice.  I even bought an ice cube tray to make small ice cubes. Then I broke down and bought a hand crank model (the white plastic one below) which we used for a very long time.  A lot of work especially if you had a few drinks to make and then the ice was a little too big but we managed.

Then I finally bought an electric one.  I am making smoothies such as Almond Milk Banana or WW Fruit Smoothies all of the time and cocktails such as Mojitos or Moscow Mules   where crushed ice is preferred.  It makes a lot of ice in just seconds – perfect gadget for one person or a party.  The one I have is by Waring and is the one Joy The Baker uses too – another blogger I am following.
