This gadget is a must have in your kitchen if you bake bread or especially pizzas. Most of us do not have stone ovens such as Zingerman’s, one of my local bakeries. I have taken a number of their classes and the rolls and pizzas I have made there – yum, yum, yum!
Baking Stone:
I have had my baking stone a long time and it measures 14 x 16 x 1/2-inch thick. They can be made of ceramic, stone, or more recently, salt. The stone ones are used for baking whereas the salt stones are used for things like fish and meat. Sur la table has salt stones for sale but I decided my baking stone was good enough for now. However, the salt stone did look interesting and I have seen it being used on the Food channels, so maybe sometime…
I recently made some yeast crescent rolls and used my baking stone. The tops and bottoms were perfect – you know how the bottoms seem to brown more than the tops, well not when you use a stone.
My bisquick crescent rolls turned out perfect!
