This recipe came with one of my monthly Weight Watcher’s passes and I thought to myself I cannot remember the last time I had a root beer float. I knew I would have to make this soon. Only 4 points per serving for a yummy drink/dessert and only 3 ingredients you can always have on hand.
Weight Watcher's Chocolate Root Beer Floats
- 12 oz. diet root beer
- 2 tbsp. chocolate syrup
- 1 cup fat free vanilla frozen yogurt
Divide soda between 2 glasses and add 1/2 cup frozen yogurt into each glass. Drizzle the chocolate syrup on top of the frozen yogurt and serve.

We still have an A&W in the village of Dexter which is 20 minutes from where I live. I drove by on a Friday at lunchtime and it was packed. You can see the waitress in one picture taking an order and in another the tray that they put on your door. I am sure Guy Fieri has featured an A&W on his Food Network show “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives”. Next time I am out that way I will have to try again their famous “root beer floats”.

Used to love this. Haven’t had it in a long time, not sure why. Is it possible to forget certain food/drink? Now that you’ve reminded me, I’ll be making it for my kids. I don’t even think they’ve ever had any.
I forgot all about how good a root beer float is. We used to have an A&W where I live and going to the drive-in “restaurant” was always fun. You know burgers, fries and always a root beer; and occasionally a root beer float. No chocolate though, nor diet root beer and always real ice cream 🙂
I love root beer! I have never had chocolate in mine though. Interesting! Love the pictures!
Thanks Tahny. I agree with you about the chocolate. The recipe originally said to mix it with the root beer – no thanks. So, I decided to put it on top which worked for me. I probably would leave it out next time as I would rather have my calories with some good ice cream, even though the yogurt was very good 🙂
