This added a lot of nice color in the presentation of our turkey this year. Two nephews did the decorating.
- organic crimson apples (very small)
- star fruit
- assorted nuts
- seckel pears
- chestnuts
- kumquats
- key limes
- small tangerines
- orange curls (see below)
Orange Curls: Try to find larger oranges that have a fairly smooth skin (no lines) so you can make a continuous curl around the orange. Take a citrus zester and score around the fruit and make a long strip of curly peel. Tape the end of the strip of zest to one end of a skewer, plastic drinking straw, or even a pencil (I used markers); wrap around the pencil and tape the other end.
Allow to dry standing up in a small glass for a few hours, or until they hold their curl. Use the strips to encircle the turkey in ribbony spirals. See also Sugared Fruits.
