Fruit Garland for a Turkey

This added a lot of nice color in the presentation of our turkey this year.  Two nephews did the decorating.

  • organic crimson apples (very small)
  • star fruit
  • assorted nuts
  • seckel pears
  • chestnuts
  • kumquats
  • key limes
  • small tangerines
  • orange curls (see below)

Orange Curls:  Try to find larger oranges that have a fairly smooth skin (no lines) so you can make a continuous curl around the orange.  Take a citrus zester and score around the fruit and make a long strip of curly peel.  Tape the end of the strip of zest to one end of a skewer, plastic drinking straw, or even a pencil (I used markers); wrap around the pencil and  tape the other end.

Allow to dry standing up in a small glass for a few hours, or until they hold their curl.  Use the strips to encircle the turkey in ribbony spirals. See also Sugared Fruits.
