I made these again recently for some neighbors and they were a big hit. If you are looking for a simple appetizer give these a try. The orange juice and zest add just enough flavor in the cream cheese to make this light appetizer or even dessert very tasty. You could substitute a flavored cream cheese if you want but my family likes the orange addition. Or maybe chocolate cream cheese could be really good 🙂
Fruit Appetizers on Crackers
- 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
- 1 tsp. orange zest, grated
- 2 tbsp. orange juice
- 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
- multi-shaped crackers, or tortillas cut into shapes
- fresh fruit of your choice; blueberries, strawberries, kiwi, raspberries, and oranges
- pecans, chopped (optional)
Combine first 4 ingredients and mix well. Using cookie cutters to cut out shapes in the tortillas and place on a baking sheet. Broil a few inches from the heat for a few minutes or until lightly browned; cool.
Spread cream cheese mixture on crackers and tortilla cut-outs. Cut fruit into various shapes and decorate as desired.
You might want to get some help, like your hubby, friend or kids, as they do take time to put together. You want to assemble them right before serving.
