Sangria is the perfect beverage to serve guests during the warm months of summer. It is a refreshing combination of wine (red, white or rose), fresh fruit (slices of apples, oranges or just berries), juice like orange or pomegranate and sparkling soda such as Sprite (which is a lemon lime soda).
This recipe comes from La Tienda website https://www.tienda.com/ where you can find many things “Spanish” such as lots of food products, kitchenware (this sangria pitcher) and some recipes like this one. I previously posted Summer Rose Sangria courtesy of Ina Garten.
This sangria is a far cry from my college days working on my Bachelors in Education. To stretch the wine my roommates and I (we were all poor) combined a cheap bottle of red wine and 7-up. Boone’s Farm wine was pretty cheap back then and kind of compares to Trader Joe’s Two Buck Chuck now!

Such a wonderful blend of wine, Grand Marnier, oranges, apples, and Sprite…

Perfect summer beverage…
Red Wine Sangria
- 1 bottle fruity, medium-bodied Spanish red wine such as Garnacha or Tempranilio
- 1/4 cup Grand Marnier or Cointreau
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- 1-1/2 tbsp. baker’s superfine sugar (optional as there is enough sugar in the juice and wine)
- pieces of your favorite fruit, sliced (oranges and apples are recommended)
- 2 cups lemon-lime soda such as Sprite
- orange slices for garnishing the glasses
Combine the first five ingredients in a sangria or large pitcher; stir until sugar (if adding) dissolves. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour – I made this the night before.
When you are ready to serve, add the chilled lemon-lime soda and ice; stir to combine. If you want pieces of marinated fruit in your glasses pour out of the side of the sangria pitcher. Garnish each glass with a slice of fruit and serve with your favorite tapas or appetizers.
I like to place ice and fresh fruit in each glass and then pour the sangria through the spout.

The ingredients…

So much better than the Sangria I made in college with a cheap bottle of wine and 7-up!!!

Sangria sounds perfect for these dog-days of Summer. 🍊🍇🍋🍈🥭
Sangria is always a good beverage to share with guests…
Such a tasty and refreshing drink for summer. I’m all in for anything citrus!
We think a like when it comes to citrus, I mean juice, fresh oranges and Grand marnier 🙂
What a great recipe for this time of year. I love the serving pitcher, it is quinessentially Spanish!
Very refreshing and a delicious recipe. You got me interested in Spain after your trek across the country and you ate Padron peppers. I could have ordered some fresh but I never would have been able to eat them all. The pitcher is perfect as you can pour the sangria through the spout or if you want the ice and marinated fruit pour from the side
Sounds like a perfect recipe!
It may not be the perfect recipe but it is the perfect beverage to serve during the warmer summer months 🙂 We enjoyed it…
Delicious!!! Sangria is a beautiful way to enjoy a Spanish wine punch. Very nice.

Thanks Velva – I think so too! Love the combination of ingredients in this red wine Sangria 🙂
yes sangria is very refreshing. Love your cute jug.
A good summer adult drink! I like the pitcher too not just because it’s cheerful but the pouring spout only allows the Sangria to be poured 🙂
