Just this morning look who came to visit… wish I would have taken a better shot of this beautiful swallowtail butterfly. Looks like something was munching on a wing 🙂 You can see the straw-like tongue trying to slurp up the nectar of the flowers. I really think it recently left its chrysalis as it just seemed like it was just learning to fly and was a little slow. I got quite close to it before it flew off in search of more “meals”.
Linking to Fiesta Friday #185
One of my swallowtail caterpillars made it full cycle… from an egg, to a caterpillar, pupa then full grown as a butterfly.
They just love parsley and dill too…

Ooooo love posts like these. Your little guys are just lovely Judy! I’m sure your heart went pitter patter at the sight of them.
Thanks Loretta – I think it had recently emerged from its chrysalis as it seemed sluggish and that it was just learning to fly. I got pretty close to it with my camera… I was thrilled to see the butterfly and knew it was one of my “little guys” 🙂
So pretty! Great photos. 🙂
Thanks Ronit – maybe next year I can find the eggs and more importantly the chrysalis 🙂
I had one last year on my butterfly bush and caterpillars on my parsley. They are so lovely. Great pictures.
Thanks Liz – Mother Nature at her best 🙂 I was thrilled to get the pictures I did, especially of the butterfly.
Beautiful pictures Judi! I think I’ve seen more butterflies this year or maybe it’s just wishful thinking? I saw a beautiful yellow swallowtail recently.
Thanks Julie – Mother Nature on my deck – who needs a big garden, right?
I love this! I am going to work hard to grow parsley next summer for this very reason! Thanks for sharing, Judi!
Thanks Debbie – container growing is very easy and I could watch the action on my deck. The caterpillars don’t eat much and the end result is so rewarding. I hope you do grow some parsley or dill – they like that too!
How pretty! I love seeing butterflies and ladybugs in the garden, bees too!
Thanks – I love seeing all of the good guys – the caterpillars didn’t eat too much of my parsley 🙂
Beautiful! Your baby has grown up! 🦋
🙂
