Homemade Enchilada Sauce

I like to make my own sauce as I can control the salt in it – I buy unsalted tomato sauce as the rest of the seasonings are very flavorful.  See Weight Watcher’s Black Bean and Rice Enchiladas.

Homemade Enchilada Sauce

  • 2 cans (15 oz.) tomato sauce
  • 1-1/3 cups water
  • 2 tbsp. chili powder
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 1/2 tsp. cumin

Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan and bring to a boil.  Reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes or until thickened.
